Tiktaalik (Inuktitut word meaning "large freshwater fish, Late Devonian Period, about 375 Mya), the fish that could do push-ups! What a remarkable creature, the true link between fish and all life that evolved on land. Thanks to a "hybrid" respiratory system featuring both gills and primitive lungs, and thanks also to lobe fins with limbs articulations very similar to ours, with structurally strong wrists, forearms and shoulders, this animal could venture out of the water, crawl and even stand on its limbs, taking small strolls around and in fact starting the colonization of land. From swimming fish to four-legged vertebrates.
I modelled the animal starting from reference found on the web, taking it very slow in ZBrush as this was a personal and fun project. Later on I brought the model to Blender where I rigged the geometry and produced the animation.
One of the fun project I do when I'm bored, especially during summer. I hope you like it.
